Katie Poteet began her experience with dance at the young age of three. She grew to love dance the life of dance classes, rehearsals, performances, competitions and all the friends she has made.
During middle and high school Katie competed in many regional and national dance competitions. She received numerous Overall Achievement Awards for solo, duo, trio and group performances. In 2005, Katie was awarded Top Overall Senior Soloist in the Open Division at Star Systems National Finals. Katie attended the Greenville County Fine Arts Center where she received training under Andrew Kuharsky and Jan Woodward.
Upon graduation, she was named Outstanding Dance Senior of the Year. Katie has also received training from many national and international award winning teachers. Dan Wagoner, Ray Leeper, Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels, Martha Brim and Dale Lam are just a few.
A graduate from Columbia College, Katie received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance. While at Columbia College, she served as Producer and Events Coordinator for the Columbia College Dance Company. She was in charge of producing many performances such as Creativity for a Cure, the Spring & Fall Choreographer’s Showcases, and Faculty Showcases. While in college Katie had the privilege of attending and performing at the American College Dance Association and the Spoleto Festival. She also trained and worked closely with the Power Company, a professional contemporary dance company in residence at Columbia College. Katie was also chosen to perform in Dan Wagoner’s choreographic work, Plod, directed by Lisa Wheeler.
Katie served as the Director of the Furman Dance Company for four years. There she choreographed their football and basketball half time routines as well as produced their yearly showcase, the Dance Spectacular. She also recruited new members for the company.
Katie has been a talent winner in regional Miss Teen South Carolina pageants, performed in the Superstar Dance Challenge choreographed by Dennis Caspary, performed at Miss South Carolina pageants and performed in many local productions. In 2005 Katie and her competition group were chosen to perform at the Choreographers Ball at the world famous Key Club in Los Angeles.
Katie is now teaching at Dance Theatre of Greenville and choreographing for the Performing Company. She enjoys bringing her love for dance to the students of DTG and encourages each student to strive and become the best person/dancer they can be. When not teaching at Dance Theatre of Greenville she can be found with her husband, Craig and two year old son, Clay.
